Aflateen Social and Financial Literacy 2016

Due to the huge success of last year’s AFLATEEN programme, the Foundation continues with Batch 2 for selected PINTAR schools around Malaysia.

This year, 12 PINTAR secondary schools in the states of Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Johor and Pahang, were selected to participate in the programme, designed to inspire and empower youth to lead responsible lives and to become agents of change.

The AFLATEEN programme, targeted at youths aged 15-17, was first introduced in 2011. The curriculum is created by the Aflatoun Secretariat based in United Kingdom to educate youths on ‘Financial and Social’ education worldwide.

A workshop, sponsored by JP Morgan Chase Foundation, was conducted by The Asia Foundation, at the De Palma Hotel Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, from 24-26 March, for 31 co-curriculum teachers who would gain benefit from using the programme as part of their syllabus.

They were introduced to the AFLATEEN Programme by Mr Brian Larche, a professional trainer from Lariche Community who has been appointed by The Asia Foundation to conduct the workshop.

The participating schools are SMK Kota Kuala Muda amd SMK Ayer Hangat in Kedah; SMK Sungai Ara in Penang; SMK Selinsing in Perak; SAM Haji Dorani, SMK Ampang Pecah, SMK Pulau Indah in Selangor,  SMK Taman Nusa Jaya, SMK Tengku Temenggong Ahmad, SMK Tengku Temenggong Ahmad, SMK Tanjung Adang and SMK Sungai Tiram in Johor, and SMK Orang Kaya Haji in Pahang.
