The English Literacy Programme had a Social Return of Investment of RM54million

PINTAR Foundation together with UEM Group concluded its English Literacy Programme (ELP) on 4 June 2015. The three-year programme which began in Apr 2012 is an exemplary private-public partnership, which also showcased what sustainable CSR is all about. The ELP involved 50 schools, 15,000 students and 116 teachers. The programme saw great leaps made in the learning and teaching approach of the English language at the schools. English LINUS for the same cohort of students saw an improvement of 9 points in 2 years, and 75% of the teachers who att ended 75% of the course saw an improvement of at least one band or more for the Teachers’ Development Index.

Most notably, was the Social Return on Investment (SROI) for UEM Group. Their investment of RM3 million for the programme saw a return of RM54 million.The graduation ceremony of the ELP, was graced by the Deputy Minister and Minister of Education, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PINTAR Foundati on Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Arshad Ayub, YB Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy Minister for Education 1 and PINTAR Foundation Board of Trustee member, as well as UEM Group Berhad Chairman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali and UEM Group Berhad CEO, Dato’ Izzaddin Idris. Special performances were made by students from SK Cyberjaya and SK Medini, Johor Bahru. Three teachers also received special awards for their outstanding performance and commitment. They were Ms Yvonne Anthony (SK Sungai Raya, Johor), Pn. Zanariah Binti Salleh (SK Tanjong Dawai, Kedah) and Pn. Khalipah Bt. Said (SK Serting Ulu, Negeri Sembilan).
