PINTAR-HELP Teachers’ Training for Inclusive Education Programme

The PINTAR-HELP Teachers’ Training for Inclusive Education Programme (PHP) is a collaboration with HELP University that is funded by Yayasan Hasanah. Thirty selected PINTAR primary schools with special needs children in five states – Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Pahang – are involved in the one-year comprehensive programme, aimed at reducing the current challenges faced by such schools which include the shortage of qualified and trained teachers, professional support such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologist for special needs students.

The PHP will equip inclusive education teachers with skills to implement inclusive education best practices, specifically differentiation approaches in teaching and learning in the classrooms, besides introducing Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) role at their respective schools. The trainings will enable teachers to implement Individual Education Plan (IEP) effectively for their special needs students by setting “SMART” (Specific, Measurable, Aggressive, Realistic and Time Bound) targets and review the expected outcome regularly.

This project aims to support the efforts made by MOE to increase the enrolment of students with special education needs to 30% under the Inclusive Education Programme or Program Pendidikan Inklusif (PPPI). (According to the MEB Annual Report 2015, a total of 16,899 students were enrolled in PPI at 4,884 schools.)
