Education technology, guidelines, curriculum standards are continually changing, making it a priority for teachers, at the forefront of their students’ primary and secondary learning, to keep up with the trends and best practices in the field. Professional development for teachers to upskill and reskill will turn them into stronger and more fitting teachers by allowing them to produce personalised and useful lessons for students today. However, attending professional development courses can be quite challenging due to limitations in resources and timing.

The factors above inspired Lotus’s to partner with PINTAR Foundation to develop a programme to seek and prepare teachers and school leaders for their roles as pedagogical leaders and instructional mentors to others. Lotus’s extended this opportunity to 50 teachers under their school adoption programme in eight states including Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Penang, and Kedah. Teachers from 26 schools responded to take part in this programme, to gain learning experiences that inspire new ways of teaching and learning.

The PINTAR-LOTUS’S Teachers’ Leadership Programme was divided into three modules: Understanding Oneself & Self-Reflection, Effective Educators and Motivated Learners, and Strategies and Coaching. The modules focused firstly on the teachers’ personal selves, discovering their traits, gaps, and ways to encourage a culture of teamwork and growth mindset. Dividing between virtual and physical sessions, teachers also explored the roles, needs and importance of effective educators and ways to promote a culture of motivated learners in teaching and learning.

The final training session, held at Ideas Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, led by Accordia Training and Development and Arus Academy to provide valuable knowledge and strategies to improve the teachers’ classrooms and teaching methods, as well as coaching and mentoring to overcome any shortcomings teachers may experience in their classroom. In celebrating completing the training programme, teachers were awarded certificates recognising their professional development, and a tour of the Lotus’s grocery store in Selayang.
